The first CodaBow prototypes were born in the antiquated attic laboratory of a dormant liniment factory in Winona, Minnesota. Among the hand-blown flasks and graduated cylinders, we began gathering our ingredients and tools to make the first bows. Some of our ingredients - composite materials and their processes - were new to the art of bowmaking. All the rest were ingredients as old as bowmaking itself: a passion for the art, a profound understanding of the science, and a dedication to the uncompromising excellence of both. With the Wisdom of age and the energy of youth, we set out to create a bow that unites the traditions of bowmaking with the future of advanced materials. The result is a bow that not only feels and performs at a level that will please any player, but also produces a sounds found only in the finest pernambuco bows; a sound you need to hear to appreciate. Its graphite-fiber construction also assures that it will not tire or warp. The sterling silver mounted frog of the CodaBow emphasizes tradition; the inlaid Coda symbol is an elegant reminder of its innovation. The CodaBow represents the culmination of years of imagination and contribution on the part of countless musicians, teachers, students, bowmakers, and scientists. The journey of the CodaBow from the early days in the attic laboratory to its debut on distinguished stages throughout the world is a tribute to all who play, listen, and dream.

Their words called for the creation of the CodaBow, and their words have guided its evolution to what it is today. We welcome and encourage ALL thoughts and feelings about the CodaBow. The more we listen to players, the better our bows and our understanding.
"I am most impressed with the playing qualities of the CodaBow. This comparatively inexpensive bow possesses most of the qualities of fine handmade bows. It is very lively for all complicated off-string playing and produces an excellent sound with secure feeling in legato playing. In my opinion, the CodaBow will be very useful for young violinists as well as for professional performers." - Roman Totenberg, violinist
"I've had the CodaBow for three weeks and I haven't put it down. It does everything I expect and more. It pulls a truly full sound from my instrument, is responsive, and has predictable, controllable bounce. During my trial period, my students played their lessons with the stick and were all impressed, even played better." - Mark Cedal, Professor of Music
"The bow draws a rich, silky tone from my petite-sized instrument and the spiccato action is wonderful. It certainly will make playing the viola more enjoyable." - Betsy W., teacher
